School Reach Call for February 8, 2010 We understand that many people received several calls this morning regarding today's school closing. Due to the high volume of calls that School Reach was experiencing at the same time, the launch time of the calls was delayed. It was at first thought that there was a problem with the system and that the original call was not launched, therefore, an additional launch sequence was set in place. Please be assured that School Reach is still considered a valuable tool and we are confident that this should not occur again in the future. We apologize for any inconvience. |
PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARTEN SCREENINGS
Preschool and kindergarten screenings for the 2010-2011 school year will be held the week of March 1-5, 2010. If you have a child that fits into one of the categories below, we encourage you to call and set up an appointment for your child. We will begin making appointments on February 1.
Children who will be 3 or 4 years of age before August 1, 2010, can be screened for preschool. Children have to have this current screening in order to be considered for the upcoming fall preschool placement. We have 60 slots available in our preschool classes. Children are screened and then placed according to need. The remaining children are placed on a waiting list and offered placement when other children move or drop from the program for various reasons.
Children who will be 5 years of age before August 1, 2010, are eligible to attend kindergarten, and we encourage you to have them screened.
The screening process takes about an hour. Several different areas are assessed. These areas include: Height & weight, hearing & vision, and the DIAL 3. The DIAL 3 includes speech and language, motor skills (such as running, jumping, skipping, throwing & catching a ball), pre-academic concepts, behavior (such as separating from the parent and ability to attend to task). A parent questionnaire is also included in this assessment. There are several pages of paperwork for the parents to complete while their child is being screened. Several of our screening forms that parents need to complete are available by clicking on the appropriate tab below; print the forms, complete them at your convenience, and bring them with you to the screening appointment.
You will also need to bring the following documents with you to the screening appointment: Your child's legal birth certificate (not the little footprints one!), and immunization record. Children's immunizations have to be up-to-date in order to attend preschool or kindergarten.
Screenings will be held in the multi-purpose room in the elementary building. Please enter through the elementary doors located at 357 Jost Street. Beginning February 1, you may call Penny Branson at 573-732-3293 to schedule your child's appointment. |

Bourbon High School Earns "A+" Designation
Vol. 43, No. 36 April 23, 2009 20 High Schools Earn "A+" Designation by State Board of Education
The A+ Schools program was created by state law in 1993. It is intended to raise academic standards in participating high schools, improve the graduation rate and prepare more students for postsecondary learning and high-wage jobs. With today's action by the State Board of Education, 274 public high schools have qualified for A+ status. The newly designated schools are:
This year (2008-09), the state is providing $25.2 million to underwrite the assistance for eligible A+ students. Since 1997, more than 38,000 students have used the A+ benefit for at least one semester of attendance at a community college. To qualify, high school graduates must attend an A+ school for at least three years, have a grade-point average of at least 2.5 on a 4-point scale, maintain a 95 percent attendance record, and perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring in the school district. Members of the Class of 2009 who attend the newly designated A+ Schools will be eligible to use their state assistance as early as this summer, if they are ready to enroll in a community college. |
